A circlip (a combination of “circle” and ” clip “) is a circular clip. The circlip is also called a Jesus clip, snap ring, rotor ring, or C-clip.
Circlips, Retaining Rings and Snap Rings are fasteners that grasp elements or installations onto a shaft or in a dwelling/bore when assembled in a groove. Once it’s fixed, the exposed piece functions as a shoulder which holds the particular element or installation.
The circlip has two major types:
1. External clips: These clips are installed over the shaft
2. Internal clips: These clips are installed inside the bore
Circlips solve problems such as clearance diameter, flexible and radial installation, tolerance take-up and also thrust load capacity.
Circlips, Retaining Rings and Snap Rings are now integral components of modern engineering design.
The circlips are most commonly used for different engines, pumps, and HVAC systems. The size of the circlips varies according to the applications. The most commonly used circlips have a diameter less than 2 inches (or 50mm). The large circlips have a diameter of up to 400mm or 500mm.
Hole Retaining rings
Installed in the circular hole, used to fix the axial movement of the parts, the outer diameter of this type of retaining ring than the diameter of the assembly hole diameter is slightly larger. Installation must be used when the spring pliers, the jaws into the jaws of the retaining ring, clamping retaining ring, in order to put into the pre-processed circular hole slot.
Shaft Retaining rings
Shaft retaining ring is a slotted shaft, used to fix the parts of the hole to the movement, the inner diameter of this type of retaining ring is slightly smaller than the assembly shaft diameter. Installation must be used with a spring clamp, the jaws into the jaws of the retaining ring, expansion of the retaining ring, in order to put into the pre-processed shaft groove.
E Type Snap Ring
E-Ring provides wider surface areas. They fit on shafts or tubes that have grooves on them. E-Rings are also ideal for shafts with smaller diameters.
Flat Key
Flat keys are often used in the removable coupling between the shaft and the transmission parts on the shaft to transmit torque and motion; they can also play a guiding role when axial movement is required between the mating parts. Flat key coupling is composed of key, shaft keyway and hub keyway. Flat keys are divided into four types: ordinary flat keys, thin flat keys, guide type flat keys and slide keys.
